My Year (In Twitter Updates)

Saw an app on Facebook that takes a bunch of random statuses from your year and makes a collage of random events in your life.

Made me think, what if instead I were to pick out the important ones and see how well I could summarize my year and the things that were important to me…

This is my attempt:

January:

  • just got the most important and most exciting email of my life from the Galen T. Brown Foundation — i’m freaking out over here.
  • interview for full ride today at 10, leaving now. pray!
  • I got the scholarship! Don’t know yet exactly how much money it is for. Will find out in 3-4 weeks.
  • Einstein’s special theory of relativity is blowing my mind. Maybe I should major in physics…
  • Listening to some old school john mayer & trying to figure out why I care about parametric equations

February:

  • Hanging out at maggie’s
  • Just got a job offer from chevron. Way excited about the salary and the connections to be made. Sad that it is in louisiana.
  • just got the info on the brown scholarship. looks like TAMU is taken care of!
  • finding it insanely hard to motivate myself to do school, a problem I’ve never really had before
  • i was excited about being right across the lake from new orleans this summer. then i found out its a 26 mile wide lake! http://is.gd/j62B
  • laughing because I’m just now realizing that the current project I’m managing at work is an over $15,000 project
  • think i just found the perfect car - going to look at it this week with my dad - http://is.gd/jMmE
  • I’M GETTING THE CAR!!!! HE TOOK THE OFFER!!!! WOOOOO!!!! i’m totally freaking out over here…

March:

  • contemplating the philosophical observations c.s. lewis makes in his book “A Grief Observed” for a paper i’m writing.
  • nuclear chemistry: the only interesting part of my entire chem AP course
  • back from a great time with maggie. went to starbucks and tried the london fog latte. highly recommended for fellow tea lovers. #starbucks

April:

  • today: lunch with everyday sunday, learned some photoshop (thnx @frankhart), and now free everyday Sunday concert tonight! 6:30 at crosspt
  • beginning the cramming for the chem AP exam. if i get a 4 i never have to take chem again!
  • divorced mom has to go back to work to support the kids while her ex has just bought himself a new dodge viper = not cool
  • good thing of the day: REI giving me a brand new tent & sleeping pad to replace the ones I was having problems with. I <3 REI

May:

  • There’s a reason why Lebron is MVP and Kobe isn’t. One makes his team better while the other has to cry to the refs and take cheap shots.
  • reallllly stressing about this chem AP test. argh.
  • i have so much chemistry in my head. too bad i’ll forget it all 2 hours after the test tomorrow.
  • just finished last day at crosspoint. i will miss the great crosspt staff.
  • powerful video asking people what god is. only one christian. europe is sad. http://bit.ly/e3Sq6
  • leaving katy. everything I own is in my car. crazy feeling. gearing up for the 5.5 hour drive to new orleans
  • kinda pysched that the pipeline field engineering supervisor just gave me his card and told me to call him after a couple of years at TAMU

June:

  • goodbye windows mobile & sprint. hello android & t-mobile.
  • An engineer is upset that I want him to reboot. He doesn’t want to close his 43 windows that are open. No, I’m not exaggerating
  • Chilling by the pool with all the interns. Good times
  • Just drove 7 hours to surprise maggie at work. She was surprised/shocked/happy. Worth the drive after working 9 hours for sure
  • Chevron is starting a team for the local Indoor Soccer League. Way excited.

July:

  • Indoor soccer with all the other athletically gited interns. Well athletically gifted for engineers anyway
  • The IT Manager set me up to meet with the head Facilities Engineer for Gulf of Mexico. Meeting starts in 12 minutes
  • dear monday, i hate you now and forever.

August:

  • presentation at 1:10 today. little nervous, need to flush out a couple of slides between now and then
  • Presentation went great, thanks all. Supervisor told me I was fantastic
  • At the helicopter hangar in Picayune. No wifi or cell coverage here. With another IT guy, we don’t appreciate feeling this disconnected
  • final performance review in 15 minutes
  • nailed it. ranked in the top 15%. supervisor is sending off recommendations to all of the places i’m interested in working in.
  • wow, can’t believe it is the 2nd to last day of my internship already. come home on saturday, then college!
  • Just saw District 9 with Shane. Movie of the year for sure.
  • Last day in katy before leaving for Fish Camp at 6am tomorrow. Bought a bike, now to finish up packing.

September:

  • Engineering 111 is going to be fun but hard. The professors are awesome but disorganized. That is what I get for doing honors
  • finished my physics homework early. this means i should get a jump start on my english assignment due tuesday. ugh… i liked physics better
  • I feel so sorry for the poor souls in this class who have never seen calculus and are so confused. But they will make my curve better :)
  • what a day. doctor appointment on thursday. breakaway was awesome. working in bakersfield, CA next summer. new north face backpack came.
  • Nothing like vector calculus at midnight to get the brain in a state of utter stupor. Time for bed, more work tomorrow - busy week ahead.
  • i always get super organized on the weekends, just so i can destroy it all throughout the week.
  • I know this is sacreligious to say in this town but a)I don’t like football & b)the best part of these games is the band & 3)our team sucks
  • Girls: no matter what your friends tell you it is not cute or attractive to wear rain boots around campus when it is barely sprinkling
  • Volleyball game - check. Tutoring others in physics - check. Engineering team homework - check. English paper ———
  • Am now in the running for Class of 2013 President. Campaign will start next Tuesday, stay tuned for more and spread the word!
  • Dear Mondays. You are the bane of my existence as a college student. Please go away.

October:

  • road trip was a massive success. now to study for a couple of hours, then bedddd
  • Campaigning is done. Even if I don’t win at least I have more Facebook friends now. That’s secretly all I wanted anyway. (Sshhhh…)
  • Studying math. Math prof told us: the danger is not that it is difficult, it is that you think it is easy.
  • Student to math prof: How did you know to add that derivative into the equation to make it true? Math prof: because I am freaking brilliant.
  • I swear if I find the person who stole my bike they should fear for their life. Just walked 20 mins in the biggest downpour we’ve had.
  • RT John Mayer: If you think “Party in the USA” is ironically awesome, go home. If you think it’s authentically awesome, let’s dance.
  • One of those nights. Waking up in 5 hours, still have 400 words to write. Glorious.
  • Ouch. That was a surprise.

November:

  • Brian Gill: (very matter of factly, about me learning to snowboard) Well a lot of it is confidence so you might be good at it since you think you’re amazing at everything. Eric Reese: Oh so truthful. — This is when we all crack up in the library. Great, honest, friends, good times.
  • 1st basketball game of the season tonight at 7pm @ Reed Arena. An all sports pass gets you in. Be there!
  • Spontaneous prayer vigil at cain park with over 400 people is reminding me why I chose TAMU. Praying for those families
  • Apparently Skype is set up to show what song I’m listening to - a friend IMed “Please tell me you aren’t really listening to Taylor Swift..”
  • What was a mediocre evening turned eventful after Eric stepped into a manhole, gashed his shin, & needed to be taken to the Emergency Room
  • Now about 95% ready for the engineering test, getting that last 5% would take me the better part of 5-6 hours. Sleep wins. Goodnight all.
  • Loving this cold weather. On the other hand, not loving realizing I have to make an 89 on my Econ final for an A due to the way its weighted

December:

  • Slowwwllly getting the hang of this college thing. Engineering final run for grade went exactly as it should have.
  • This weather makes me feel alive. (Also, SNOW!)
  • Me: Food? Eric Reese: Nap. Ahhh the joys of no classes.
  • Dance like the photo’s not tagged, love like you’ve never been unfriended, tweet like nobody’s following.
  • In love with David Gray’s new album - “Start to believe That we can rise above Our pettiness and love Like we ain’t loved before”
  • Destroyed the econ final. Even found an ambiguous answer and caused the teacher to change her answer key. Now for a scholarship application
  • Probably got an A on that calc final which means I just *might* end up with an A in the class. Now to study physics!
  • Survived my first semester, relatively sure I kept my 3.5 at least (phew). Finals are over!!!
  • Anyone in Katy doing anything exciting tonight? I miss CS…
  • In plano! Bringing in the new year with eric and whoever else we bring along
